Letter from the Chancellor
Dear Incoming MU Student:
Welcome to the University of Missouri! We are so pleased that you will be joining our community of gifted and talented students from all over the world. I encourage you to take full advantage of the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead during your time at Mizzou. You can look forward to meeting new friends, thriving academically, becoming involved in student organizations and attending sporting events.
Having fun and celebrating with friends are natural parts of a college experience. Research from MU’s Wellness Resource Center indicates that most MU students make healthy, safe and smart choices as they transition to the independence of life on campus. These surveys reveal that Mizzou students value their friends, family, success, education and future careers.
MU has clear and, we believe, fair expectations regarding alcohol use in our community. Campus alcohol policies are actively enforced, as well as city ordinances and state laws. Violations lead to real consequences – consequences we do not want our students to experience.
This year, MU is implementing an online alcohol education course, AlcoholEdu, to support our campus alcohol abuse prevention and intervention efforts. AlcoholEdu encourages students to make informed decisions about alcohol use and provides information about responding to any negative behaviors of peers.
We are asking every incoming, first-year MU student to take AlcoholEdu.
* You will receive email login instructions for accessing the course on
July 28, 2008.
* We ask that you complete Part 1 by August 18, 2008.
* Approximately 45 days later, you will receive an email asking you to
complete Part 2.
* Both Part 1 and Part 2 are necessary to complete the program.
* Additional information is available at www.studenthealth.missouri.edu
Your responses to questions within the program are strictly confidential. The university only will receive information about the student body as a whole and will never see any individual student’s answers.
Mizzou is committed to maintaining a campus environment where all members can live, learn and have fun safely. I hope you will join us in these efforts!
Sincerely,

Brady J. Deaton
