Information for Parents
Dear Parents,
The University of Missouri strives to create a campus environment that encourages responsible drinking for students who choose to drink by providing comprehensive alcohol abuse prevention and intervention programs. Last year, the University added another component to these efforts via an online interactive alcohol education course, Alcohol Edu. This course provides students with information on alcohol and its effects on the brain, body, and behavior. Whether students drink or not, AlcoholEdu encourages them to make informed decisions about alcohol use and provides information about responding to the drinking behavior of peers.
Initial data from the MU campus are encouraging. Incoming students in 2008 reported that AlcoholEdu:
- Prepared them to make a plan for responsible drinking (77%)
- Intervene when a friend was drinking too much (77%)
- Identify the signs of alcohol poisoning (80%)
- Help someone who may have alcohol poisoning (79%)
We would like to give you the opportunity to experience AlcoholEdu for yourselves.
To that end, you will find LOGIN instructions for PARENTS ONLY below. Please do not share this login with your student. Students who login with this information will not receive credit for the course.
Keep in mind that this login will allow you to experience the course just as your student will experience it, including surveys, chapters of educational material, and tests of knowledge. As such, you will be asked questions that may not seem appropriate to you as a parent. Your responses will not be recorded, however, so you do not need to be concerned that entering responses will affect MU’s AlcoholEdu data.
- Log in by visiting http://college.AlcoholEdu.com/login.aspx and enter your specific population ID: 8C178396PARENT
- Create an AlcoholEdu account by entering a valid email address and a password of your choice.
- You may log in and out of the site after completing each section. Section ends are marked with a Next button.
- Each time you log in, remember to use the email address and password you created during registration for the course.
We hope you find this opportunity to view the course useful and another tool for talking with your student about alcohol use. We thank you in advance for encouraging your student to complete the course.
Sincerely,
MU AlcoholEdu Team
