SHAPE provides a wide
variety of programs based on our four core values, Talk,
Protect, Respect and Enjoy. While all of our programs
incorporate every single one of these values, the programs below are grouped
according to the topic area that the program focuses on. Every
SHAPE program offers participants the chance to talk
candidly about sexual health information and values in a safe
environment as well as provides education and self care skills designed
to help students protect themselves. A special emphasis
is placed on teaching students to respect themselves
and others as well as encouraging students to enjoy their
personal decisions according to their own unique set of values.
TALK:
Communication Programs
Let’s Talk About Sex
This program
explores sexual communication and includes interaction and open discussions.
Group definitions of sexual health will be developed, and a discussion
will be facilitated related to interpretations of these definitions as
applied to diversity, environment, and culture. The student will demonstrate
their knowledge and ability to communicate through small group role playing
activities with scenario applications (discussing past sexual history,
choosing to be abstinent, negotiating contraceptive use). This program
is most appropriate for small groups that have some baseline knowledge
and comfort with each other.
Assert
it! You’re Worth it!
The purpose
of this program is to provide students the skills needed to identify their
sexual values as well as to effectively communicate those values and desires.

sexual histories, barrier/contraceptive methods, and sexual pleasure.
All audiences welcome!
Abstinence: Voicing the Choice

of abstinence and/or the postponement of sex. Investigation into abstinence-compatible

discussing abstinence or postponing sexual activity.

including facts on sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, drugs
and alcohol’s influence on sexuality, and other miscellaneous questions
college students may have. Audience participation is required and facilitated
in a game situation where teams are created and designed to compete against
other teams according to their sexual health knowledge. This is one of
our most requested programs and is applicable to all college students.
This program can be modified to the specific issues affecting the particular
audience population.
Spin the Bottle Program
The purpose
of this program is to investigate sexual health information including
STDs, pregnancy prevention, diversity issues, and healthy sexuality in
a fun and interactive way. This format offers a more intimate program
for students and facilitates many interesting discussions.

condom (male/female) and dental dam use in an interactive environment.
Following the presentation, the student will be able to demonstrate effective
communication skills, identify different condom types and their reliabilities,
and explain the importance of issues related to gaining sexual consent.
Smaller groups are best as there are a limited number of models.
