Laboratory Services

The testing and results process:
- SHC's on-site lab tests blood, urine, bacteria and fungus, and many other miscellaneous tests.
- Tests that cannot be performed on-site, including tests for sexually transmitted infections, are sent to the state lab or the local reference lab.
- Tests performed on-site have a fast turnaround time and usually can be completed before the student leaves SHC.
All laboratory results are strictly confidential.
- The pre-paid health fee covers many of the tests ordered or requested by SHC providers.

The facts:
- The lab functions in compliance with the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act (CLIA) and is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and Health Care Financing Administration.
- All members of the laboratory staff are academically qualified and experienced.
-The lab is staffed by a Ph.D. in clinical pathology, two board-certified medical technologists who are registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and a hospital lab technician II who is also a board-certified medical assistant.
- Combined, the staff has over95 years of laboratory experience.
