Cool treats for hot days

Summer time brings people outside and often engaging in more activities. When the temperatures go up it becomes more important to stay hydrated. A simple summer pleasure is grabbing a cool drink and lounging under a tree or a respite in the shade. Many people may recall a childhood memory of those hot summer days including the consumption of a cool treat; popsicles, ice cream, or watermelon and other juicy fruits were a way to take a break from the heat. How about trying a new version of the classic summer treat? Here are some creative ways to combine the traditional popsicle with your favorite fruits and a surprising twist with vegetables too! Making your own popsicles is a great way to enjoy fruits of the season, avoid the additives, and avoid high fructose corn syrup of store bought products. For a minimal cost you can purchase a popsicle mold (about $10) from many of the grocery stores in town and re-use it again and again as you try new recipes. Use a blender to puree the fruits and vegetables. May you be adventurous in your summer activities and exploring new ways to add variety to your diet. Try that new fruit or vegetable you’ve been curious about!
