Increase your energy naturally

Summer should be a great time to get up and get outside and do the things you love. But if you're constantly feeling tired, it might be hard to get yourself going. Here are a few ways to increase natural energy.

Keep a slow steady stream of energy rather than riding out sugar highs and lows. Meals with whole grains like rice, quinoa and whole-grain bread have complex carbohydrates that can give you a steady stream of energy. Sugary foods will leave you hungrier and more tired when the sugar rush ends. Pair complex carbs with a healthy fat and protein for a well-rounded snack. Almonds are a great example: one serving of raw almonds contains 4g protein, 4g carbs, 9g fat.

Take a power nap when you need it. Even a short nap is better than fighting through sleepiness. Use these guidelines from our health coaches: nap earlier than 4pm so you're tired enough to go to bed.

Get your blood pumping. According to this writer's experience, an intense 30 seconds of bodyweight exercises like jumping jacks or mountain climbers gave him the same mental boost as a shot of caffeine. We say - try it out next time you're dragging and see what works for you!
