Get Your Summer Mojo On Earlier in the Day

All you think about after a greuling semester is sleeping in during the summer months. – Although that might be nice for a week (or two), summer can be the perfect time to get your morning-person mojo going. Here's why:

1. Sunrises are just as beautiful as sunsets.

Not only do you get moving earlier, but your productivity improves and it keeps you from having the afternoon blahs. It’s cooler, so outside fitness can be a reality. If you’re up early with the sun, you can get in a walk, run or hula hooping session while absorbing some Vitamin D and avoid the hottest part of the day.

2. Breakfast becomes doable.

You’re up earlier, so maybe you have time for breakfast at a table instead of on the run. And since it’s summer, you can slice up some colorful fruit (we love watermelon, blueberries and strawberries) and typically they are on sale because they are in season.

3. Early to bed, early to rise.

There’s a reason for this old saying – you’re following your body’s natural rhythms. When light comes through the window, your brain registers that and wakes you up naturally, but only when you get to bed at a reasonable time.

Our top tips for becoming a morning person:

• Come home a little earlier from your night out
• Appreciate the smell of coffee before you drink it
• Make this “extra” time just about you (read a book, sit on the deck, meditate)

If you need more tips or just can’t seem to get going, talk with our certified health coach about creating a plan to stay active. Call 573-884-WELL (9355) for an appointment.
