World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about HIV and AIDS. Nationally, this day is meant to encourage individuals to seek HIV testing, know their status, and work collectively to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. In 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated 56,300 individuals were infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Approximately 1.1 million people in the United States are currently living with HIV or AIDS with 24-27% undiagnosed or unaware of being infected by HIV. The SHAPE organization, in collaboration with other campus and community partners, commemorate this day by offering free HIV testing and events honoring those who have died or been affected by HIV/AIDS.

Sexual Responsibility Week

Sexual Responsibility Week is an annual event highlighting the importance of being responsible, safe, and healthy sexually. Although the SHAPE organization provides education, prevention, and guidance on how to be safe and responsible sexually year-round, this week is dedicated to increasing awareness of a variety of sexual health topics including communication, healthy relationships, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, gender identity and sexual orientation. Events planned are designed to encourage students to have open and honest dialogues about the sexuality issues they face. Campus and community resources are provided.
