We have plenty of resources to help you improve your physical activity, eating behaviors, social habits, and coping skills that allows you to be successful in quitting tobacco. Best part is — this visit is included in your student health fee.

  • An in-depth assessment of your goals
  • Development of a customized quit plan including:
    • mindfulness-based stress-reduction strategies
    • discuss the benefits of NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) to ease withdrawal symptoms

Relapse Prevention

Regular follow-up to offer support and encouragement through the successes and challenges of quitting.

Prescription Therapies

Work with your Student Health Center primary care provider to assess whether prescription medications (Zyban® or Chantix®) is right for you to help you stop smoking.

The e-cigarette has no published clinical trials that suggest it might work as a way to help smokers quit. No clinical trials have been submitted to the FDA. There are also questions about how safe it is to inhale some substances in the nicotine mists into the lungs. Bidis are small, thin, hand rolled cigarettes imported to the United States primarily from India and other Southeast Asian countries. They are made up of tobacco wrapped in a tendu or temburni leaf (plants native to Asia), and may be secured with a colorful string at one or both ends. Kreteks are often referred to as clove cigarettes and are imported from Indonesia and typically contain a mixture of tobacco, cloves and other additives. Very little research on the long-term health effects of kreteks has been done in the United States; however, research in Indonesia indicates that kretek smoking is associated with lung problems.
